RFRU Launches Match Official of the Season awards for 2024/25

The Rugby Football Referees Union is launching its new Match Official of the Season award. Each season, each society can award one match official (broadly defined to any active members of your society, including volunteers, match observers and committee members) the honour of the RFRU Match Official of the Season.

The criteria is undefined but each society should have a clear rationale for why this person deserves this award. This could include:

  1. Most games officiated

  2. Service to the game / society / match officiating

  3. Outstanding performance

  4. Most improved

  5. Inspirational work

  6. Unsung hero

  7. Overcoming adversity

  8. A notable milestone

“Match officials are the lifeblood of our sport” said Adam White, Honorary Secretary of the RFRU. “And while it is a thankless job, it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t celebrate the fantastic commitment and amazing service shown every week at the grassroots of our sport. Without the referee, there is no game”.

Societies will be contacted directly to provide the names of their winners in due course.
